KAMPALA, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Uganda international midfielder Allan Okello has signed for Tanzanian Premier League champions Young Africans SC, his former club Vipers SC confirmed on Monday night.
"We are happy to announce that Okello has joined Tanzanian side Young Africans," a Vipers spokesperson told Xinhua.
Okello, who was part of Uganda's squad at the ongoing CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, was officially unveiled by the Dar es Salaam-based club on Monday night.
"We wish Okello all the best of luck in his new professional football journey," added Vipers spokesperson Ahmed Wasike.
Okello, 25, helped Vipers secure a domestic double last season. He was also a key member of the Uganda side that reached the quarterfinals of last year's CAF African Nations Championship, co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
"Vipers SC thanks Okello for his professionalism, commitment and decisive contributions during one of the most successful periods in the club's history and wishes him the very best in the next chapter of his career," read a club statement.
Okello joined Vipers in September 2023 from Algerian side Paradou AC and quickly established himself as the team's creative force. He finished the 2024/25 season as the team's top scorer with 19 goals.
Okello is the latest Ugandan to move to Young Africans, following in the footsteps of Khalid Aucho, Hamis "Diego" Kizza, Juma Balinya and Emmanuel Okwi. ■
